Weekend on a sheep farm

Experience country life on a sheep farm in the picturesque province of Västergötland. Make wool and leather crafts, and taste the garden's local delights. Take in the area's nature, culture and history during a long, leisurely walk. And, enjoy a good night's sleep in a room with old- fashioned charm but modern luxuries like internet and in-floor heating.

You can spend one or several days participating in chores around the farm; care for the sheep, learn how to felt, card and spin wool, carve and prepare lamb meat, sew leather and sample the farm's homemade delicacies.

The area surrounding the farm is scenic and ideal for long walks. Your hosts are more than happy to give you tips on attractions, local history and rural hideaways. The landscape of open meadows and pastures are trimmed by the farms grazing black Merino sheep, an endangered breed with extraordinarily fine wool. Today, Bitterna Åkatorp has at least 40 of the approximately 300 black Merino sheep left in Sweden.

At the farm, it is also possible to book relaxing indulgences such as sauna, jacuzzi and various massages. And a visit to the farm shop is recommended before heading off. There, you can buy fresh and smoked lamb, sausages and various leather crafts. These local treats make for great memories and unique gifts for friends and family. Arrive the evening prior and pay SEK 595 extra for afternoon coffee and dinner and overnight stay with breakfast.
