Randonnée course in Storulvån

Some say ski touring, others call it randonnée. It's about using climbing skins and touring bindings to access untouched runs far away from lift queues and groomed runs. With Storulvån Mountain Station as a convenient base, you will learn principles about safe route selection, how to best use the terrain, how to use avalanche equipment and how to optimize your tour.

Forgotten are those days when you had to compromise when choosing equipment for tours beyond the ski lifts. Skins attached under the skis, wide skis and stable bindings that allows you to free the heel makes it comfortable to get up on the magnificent mountains around Storulvån. Both the excitement and the mood increase as you find the meditative rhythm while you strive to access the best runs. The magnificent mountains offer wide spaces with a variety of runs and it’s guaranteed that it does not get crowded.

After an initial lunch at Storulvåns Fjällstation you will be on your way to ascend Getryggen, the mountain situated on the backyard of Storulvåns mountain station. On your way up, you will pass a birch forest where you can look for wolverine tracks and enjoy the sparkling snow. The effort on your way up can be challenging but the reward is great -once up on the top there will be time to enjoy the spectacular view before the climbing skins are removed and the clicking sound of bindings are heard, you are now ready to enjoy your self-earned turns.  Once back at the station, a course in avalanche awareness awaits.

The next day, playful skiing in one of Sweden's top touring area awaits. Mountains such as Getryggen, Tväråklumparna and Snasahögarna are up for grabs, different tours are chosen due to recent weather and avalanche risk. This is a perfect time to work on your off-piste technique, and learn more about choosing the safest routes on the mountain.

Last day, the touring continues and the day also contains a rescue exercise where you learn how to use your transceiver, shovel, and probe in a companion rescue situation. The course ends with a nice warm sauna and a dinner in the restaurant.
