Mountainbike in Gotland
The winding forest roads and dirt tracks of Gotland were made for cool biking at a speedy pace. Logistics, accommodation, food and maps are no big deal for tour leader Berra. He takes care of it all. You only need bring good stamina and the will to go for it.
The pretty, age old town of Visby is the starting point. You will bike through this historical town over its cobble stone streets. Then you will hit the country side and go for the Lummelunda Caves. All along you will see and feel the spectacular and demanding coastal landscape as you head north, with the Baltic on your left, slowly eating at the lime stone rocks of Gotland. Maybe you will stop and look at some indigenous plants along a forest dirt track or discover a golden eagle patrolling the skies for prey. There is a time for everything.
A break in a meadow allows for something to drink and eat. Regain your strength while gazing at the abundance of wild flowers. Sometimes an outdoor meal prepared by a chef on the rocks will be your treat and sometimes you will stop by for a meal at a gourmet restaurant.
At night you can ease your tired body into a wood heated outdoors tub, and then go for a swim in the Baltic when you feel hot.
The program is flexible and planned according to participant’s wishes and the season. Count on between 40 and 80 kilometers a day through a landscape of natural beauty and Baltic breezes. One day trips are close to Visby. Another day you will be transported to another part of the island like Furillen, Fårö or Sudret. Add caving, visits to rum distilleries, ghost walks, sport fishing, kayaking, canoeing and rabbit jumping… Gotland is full of surprises.
Your guide Berra Marcusson was born and raised on Gotland and he has got a lot to tell about the island, its inhabitants and animals. Don’t forget to ask him about his travels around the world, though. This guy is something special.
