Mountain ride Raksjaure

Some of the group have previous riding experience, while others are on horseback for the first time. The magnificent ride goes through the trackless and beautiful mountain terrain in Vindelfjällen nature reserve. The goal is a comfortable sami long hut at Lake Tjaskal on the border between the birch forest and high mountains.

The ride starts in Ammarnäs, a small mountain village. The first day's stage on horseback goes through beautiful mountain terrain to Fjällhästens sami long hut at Lake Tjaskal. While dinner is prepered, you have time to relax and if you are interested in fishing char and trout the Tjasal lake is the perfect place.

After a good night's sleep and a hearty breakfast it´s time to saddle the horses again. The ride continues up the mountain Gieråive and further out along the elongated mountain Stuore Jåppe. Below lies the bird sanctuary Marsivagge with plenty of  mointain skua, buzzard and sometimes even golden eagles. Sometimes reindeers are curiously follow our ride from far away. Arriving at the lake Raksjaure the horses will rest and the riders eat their packed lunch consisting of among other gakku - traditional Sami bread. Eventually it is time to turn back toward Tjaskal for dinner and overnight.

Day three we are off back down to Ammarnäs. If the weather is good, we will take the route over Näsbergets top and look out over Ammarnas and the river Vindelälven. At noon, it's time to say goodbye to the horses, and perhaps have a shower and a sauna which is available at Fjällhästens Hostel.
