Family winter week in Lapland
Meet the Swedish children’s story character ‘Plupp’ in the wintry forest and try some ice fishing! While the kids make new friends and learn exciting things about the great outdoors, the somewhat older members of the family can spend time doing what they probably need to do most: relaxing.
Saltoluokta Mountain Lodge lies very close to the Stora Sjöfallet National Park, a part of the Laponia World Heritage site. ‘Plupp’ supposedly lives in a traditional Sami sod house nearby, and in the area around the lodge, snowy entertainment is organized daily for all ages. Ski school, dog sledding, jigging, nature studies and day trips on skis are among the things you can do together as a family. Other activities are specifically designed for children or adults.
Younger visitors can build a snow fort while the grownups try their hand at digging a snow bivouac or tracing the route of fish from the ice-covered lake to a plate in the restaurant. The kids have fun together playing games, singing and story times, while their parents get some time to themselves. Enjoy an exquisite three-course dinner in Saltoluokta’s famous restaurant. In the evening, you can relax together in front of the open fire, chat about the day’s adventures and perhaps savour a glass or two of spritual fluids from the bar.
