Cycle tour in historical Bergslagen
Experience Västmanland by bike, where the cultural landscape of Mälardalen meets the deep forests of Bergslagen, an area with an interesting history. Two relaxing days of cycling on winding gravel roads, historical forest trails or quiet backroads are combined with local culinary experiences and relaxation at Sätra Brunn with its sauna and swimming pool.
Choose your route according to your ambitions and circumstances. The cultural district of Svartådalen is an area of wetland with a rich birdlife including the white-tailed eagle, black tern, and corncrake. In the autumn large numbers of cranes assemble on their journey south. This is a landscape made for cycling and, together with John de Jong at Edens Garden, you choose a tour filled with experiences. You could cycle along historical paths or through dense forests that are the homes of wolf, bear, elk and wild boar. Or along winding gravel roads through a flat landscape of natural pastures and traditional haysheds, with a magnificent display of butterflies on sunny summer days. An easier route follows asphalt roads, usually without any traffic.
Svartådalen is an area where the Middle Ages, mining, and the early days of Swedish industry have left their mark. Here, Danes and Swedes battled in Gustav Vasa’s time. The Svanå bruk ironworks was developed by Ebba Brahe in the 17th century. The cycle tours involve one night at Sätra Brunn, where an early form of health tourism grew in the 18th century. Today, it is a popular conference and spa facility, offering exquisite local food and cozy, traditional accommodation.
The cycle tours begin and end at Edens Garden, with an evening snack on arrival and then comfortable accommodation. Choose between the newly-renovated cozy 18th-century cottage and the more spacious Holiday Villa. For an additional charge, guests may also stay in the Small Manor, which can accommodate eight guests. Edens Garden is also a good place to start other days of exploration, on foot or bicycle, or by canoe in Svartådalen’s exciting landscape of cultural and natural interest.
