Canoeing in the Pearl River Nature Reserve
Grab a paddle and join a canoe adventure through the wilderness. Pärlälvens (the Pearl River) Nature Reserve in Lapland is one of Sweden’s last forest areas without any roads. A beautiful mountain landscape surrounded by the old forest.
You pack the canoes with food, equipment, tents and start paddling. When the evening comes around you start setting up camp on the beach. During the days you'll take shorter hiking tours or try your luck fishing in the lake Karats. To preserve and take care of nature you only take the fish you eat, the rest you catch and release.
This adventure is not an extreme canoe or fishing tour. It’s a beautiful wilderness experience close to nature. There will be lots of good photo opportunities, fishing, bird watching and a chance to just enjoy the quiet surroundings.
Day 1. You meet up at Åsgård Guesthouse. You go for dinner together, get to know each other and go through the program for the following days.
Day 2. After breakfast at Åsgård Guesthouse, it’s time to go to Jokkmokkguiderna's place to go through the equipment, clothing and safety. After a 50 km drive to Karats, you launch the canoes and start your adventure. After a while, it’s time to find a nice site to set up camp and make your own dinner around the open fire.
Day 3-5. The following days you’ll live real wilderness life. Canoeing between the mountains and hiking through the pine forest. Maybe you’ll climb the mountain Farforita or try your fishing luck. You prepare your food together over an open fire before sharing your day with each other and falling asleep in the mountain tents.
Day 6. After a couple of hours in the canoes, you reach civilization and your starting point. You pack your gear and take the car back to Jokkmokk. Dinner at a restaurant in Jokkmokk and staying the night at Åsgård Guesthouse.
Day 7. Breakfast before departure.
