Camp Ripan is a family-owned enterprise dedicated to providing a warm welcome, comfortable accommodation, fine food and drink, as well as activities and experiences. Extensive local knowledge and the ability to describe Kiruna and its surroundings are equally important. The name ‘Kiruna’ is a Swedish version of the Sami word ’giron’, which means grouse.
As soon as you put the key in the door to your accommodation at Camp Ripan, it’s almost like coming home. All rooms are individual huts with their own entrance. Both the outdoor and indoor environment has been carefully designed using colours and materials that have clear links to the Kiruna area. Instead of the high hotel standard, visitors looking for an experience out of the ordinary can instead choose to stay in an igloo, sleeping soundly on several layers of reindeer skin.
Camp Ripan is in the centre of Kiruna, with the massive mine and the magnificent scenery just a stone’s throw away. It forms a perfect base for activities in Kiruna and the surrounding area. The accommodation is comfortable and guests can either self-cater or eat their meals in the gourmet restaurant.
The three local ’cultures’ permeate everything at Camp Ripan – the traditional navvy culture, the Tornedal valley culture and the Sami culture. Utilising the skills of the area in order to offer local character and local knowledge is a conscious strategy, and quality is more important than quantity. The Camp Ripan kitchen produces delicious meals from the region’s tasty produce. The wine cellar contains wines that are a perfect complement to the aromas on the menu. A memorable gastronomic journey based on Norrland produce awaits the guest.
